March 13, 2000 Meeting Location: Palace Skating Center, Philadelphia, PA Time: 7:30 PM Presiding Officers: Al Taglang, President Bill Houle, Vice President, Artistic Eforrset Almond, Vice President, Speed Joe Sacerdote, Vice President Hockey Allen Bell, Secretary Marie McGee, Treasurer All regional officers present Members In Attendance: 39 1.0 Committee Reports The Secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting. A correction was made to the minutes in Section 1.5 regarding a Keystone League meet with $40,000 in cash prizes, the correct figure was $25,000. The minutes were approved as corrected. The Treasurer's report was read, copy attached, reflecting activity since the last meeting, with a closing balance of $12,119.77. The report was approved as presented. 1.1 Evening Of Champions No report presented. Bill and Ginny Houle resigned due to job relocation. Dottie Walsh and Roxanne Phillips also have resigned. Margaret Bain has accepted the chairmanship of the committee. Committee: Margaret Bain, chairmen, Allen Bell, Berny Stringer, Bob Stringer, Sandy Platoni, and Rob Ryan. 1.2 Eastern Region Awards Dinner Dottie Walsh presented a report on the success of the 1999 Awards Dinner. The dinner was a financial success in breaking even. Dottie Walsh's resignation from the committee was accepted with our thanks and regrets. Additionally, the Houles have resigned along with Marie McGee and Roxanne Phillips. Allen Bell accepted the post as chairmen. Other committee members added where Dave Berger, George Maass, and Jeanne Sincavage. Committee: Allen Bell, chairman, Mary Allmond, Margaret Bain, Dave Berger, Charlie Kirchner, George Maass, Linda Miner, Berny Stringer, Bob Stringer, and Joe Sacerdote. 1.3 McHenry Scholarship No report presented. Committee: Marsha Neary, chairman, Allen Bell, Carey Elder, Linda Miner, Kristen Taylor, and Dottie Walsh. 1.4 Gold Medal Test Center No report presented. Committee: Allen Bell, chairman, Steve Hinkle and Bill Houle 1.5 Hockey Committee. The hockey coaches association held a hockey specific meeting following the general meeting. 1.6 Eastern Region Web Site Dave Festa and John Patton webmasters for Eastern Region, Tri State and the RSweb were present and lead a discussion of the potential of the information highway. Committee: Steven Hinkle, facilitator, the region's vice presidents, Dave Festa, Ed Heater, John Patton, Angelo Pizzullo, and Carol VanSant. 2.0 Old Business 2.1 Regional Floor Coatings. Buggy Allmond lead a discussion of floor coatings for the regional speed and artistic championships and the time frame within which the floor should be coated. The following motion to amend the regional by-laws was made, seconded and approved. That the regional floor have a fresh coating within two weeks or less of the start of the speed championships. Ideally the coating would be the same as used on the National floor. 2.2 Regional Meeting Notices. A discussion was held at previous meeting regarding notification to the speed coaches. There was no farther discussion of this issue as the VP of speed has taken on the responsibility of notifying the speed coaches. 2.3 Quality of National Floor. At the previous meeting there was a discussion of the quality of the floor at the artistic championships in Fresno. No new issues were raised at this meeting and issue is closed. 3.0 Selection of Regional Sites for 2002 3.1 Hockey. Four championships are currently scheduled and four votes of Eastern Region Hockey clubs in good standing will be conducted. Clubs must be present to vote. There were three bids submitted. The Sportsplex in Feasterville, PA for puck and ball championships. An overview of the facility was presented by Chuck Osborn. The Big Wheel in for the ball championships. An overview of the facility was presented by Bonnie Coffin. The Deptford Hockey and Skating Center in Westville, NJ for the puck championships. An overview of the facility was presented by Charlie Kirchner. The results of the voting was: 2002 North American and Junior Olympic Puck Eastern Regional Championships will be held at the Deptford Hockey and Skating Center in Westville, NJ. 2002 North American and Junior Olympic Ball Eastern Regional Championships will be held at the Big Wheel Skating Center in E. Stroudsburg, PA. 3.2 Artistic and Speed. The two meets are traditionally awarded to the same host, this will be followed for the 2002 championships. There were two bids submitted. Wheels In Motion of Wharton, NJ. An overview of the facility was presented by Kristen Taylor. Holiday Skating Center of Delanco, NJ. An overview of the facility was presented by Steven Hinkle. The results of voting was: 2002 Artistic and Speed Eastern Regional Championships will be held at the Wheels In Motion Skating Center in Wharton, NJ. 4.0 Election of Regional Officers All regional officer were uncontested except the Vice Presidents of Art and Hockey. The nominees for the VP of Art were Steven Hinkle and Jim Lemma. The nominees for VP of Hockey were Chuck Osborne and Joe Sacerdote.
